We built a Safety Distance Alerting System which alerts drivers on their safety distance - for safer roads with less accidents.
One of the key aspects of road safety is maintaining a safe distance between vehicles. Insufficient safety distance (tailgating) is one of the main reasons for traffic accidents. In fact, rear-end collisions account for over 32 percent of all motor vehicle accidents.
TO MAKE ROADS SAFER
Vzdrževanje ustrezne varnostne razdalje zmanjša povprečno hitrost vozil, kar pripomore k boljši pretočnosti prometa in zmanjša število zastojev. Končni rezultat je manj nesreč motornih vozil.
The system consists of a detection unit (a camera) and a LED screen for displaying the alerts. It can be upgraded to include additional alerts, like speeding.
It is based on collection of data like vehicle counting, speed, timestamping and safety distance information for statistics and analytics.
It is used especially in places with higher traffic density and on critical infrastructure, such as bridges and tunnels, to lower the number of road accidents.
